For an older dog, being given up for adoption can be quite a challenge, however, there are always people willing to offer them the best in their golden years and give them all the love they deserve .
Ace arrived at the shelter when the forest fires broke out, at a fairly advanced age, 19 years old, which for us may seem like a lot, but for dogs it is almost the limit of their life.
19-year-old dog meets true love of family near the end of his life.
Just a few days after his arrival, shelter volunteer Bopie went to see him. She found a dog with bad hair, glassy eyes, and severe dental issues .
At first glance he looked married, it was easy to believe that he was at the end of his life. But unbelievably, when the little furry boy saw Boopie for the first time, he walked towards her as if he had recognized a real guardian angel .
Boopie recognized that the little dog had a fighting spirit, a curious and playful little fur that deserved a new chance . He knew he had been through a lot and the last thing he needed was to spend his golden years in shelter.
So he set out to improve what was left of sweet Ace’s life. He decided to take him home and introduced him to every place as if he were a full member of the family.
She just wanted his temporary stay to be as comfortable as possible, so she gave him a bed and a bowl of water and food.
The biggest challenge was to introduce him to the rest of his little hairless litter, who very cautiously observed the whole baby from a distance .
“When I first brought Ace home, he was very standoffish. He didn’t ask for attention. He didn’t seem to care if I petted him or not ,” Boopie said.
Over time, all the little furry friends became much more comfortable, and three months after their arrival they had created an adorable bond with the other puppies . They played, ran, and enjoyed going out for walks with their foster mother.
Although Ace was the oldest of the pack, he showed a lot of energy and seemed to be a young dog enjoying his best years .
The time to say goodbye to his foster family had arrived, but shortly before being given the adoption he had to undergo emergency surgery , so his adoption was delayed.
During this time, Boopie realized all the love she had for Ace, but he wasn’t just a little dog she had taken in while she found the perfect family, he was already part of her family and she didn’t want to lose him. So she made the decision to formally adopt him .
“When he first came up to me, put his head on my lap and started petting me , it just touched my heart. That’s when I decided I was going to adopt him,” Boopie said.
For Boopie, adoption was just formalities; Ace was already part of her family and a special member of her little flock.
Finally, this sweet little dog will be able to enjoy his golden years surrounded by the family that loves him dearly , walking through every corner of the house with his fighting spirit and transmitting all the love he has to give to those around him.
He is 19 years old but it is possible that he is starting to enjoy a life full of happiness and lots of love.
No puppy deserves to be abandoned when he reaches adulthood. If he is full of energy and youth for you, hold him at your side and love him to the end. His steps may be slow and his gaze may be tired, but his heart has a lot of love to give.
