This strange incident happened in a rural area in Hebei province (China). An old farmer lives by raising pigs behind his house. His whole family only had a herd of a few dozen pigs, so he took care of them very carefully, visiting and feeding them every day.

One day, as usual, the old farmer went to the barn to feed the pigs. After counting and counting, he found that one pig was missing. He immediately looked around because he thought the pig could only be lost. It is impossible for the pig to be eaten by wild animals because in the decades he has lived in this village, he has never encountered any ferocious animals. So he could only pity himself, hoping that the lost pig would find its own way back.

A few days later, the farmer counted the pigs and discovered that another pig was missing. Too panicked because he suddenly lost two pigs, equivalent to a not small amount of money for poor farmers, he searched more carefully in the pig barn. Sure enough, he discovered a  strange hole  that was relatively deep, wide enough for a fat pig to fit through.

The old farmer thought to himself, did my pig fall into this hole? Where did this hole come from?

The old farmer did not dare to hastily go down to investigate, so he had to call the police for help.

Police immediately arrived at the scene. At first, the police group was a bit confused when they saw the hole. They even suspected that this part of the land was collapsing.

However, later, the police decided to invite experts from related departments to review. Yet experts were extremely happy because they determined that the hole in the pig pen was left by grave robbers. They dug holes in the ground to create a path connecting to the ancient tomb, so people without knowledge will definitely not be able to find it. From there it can be inferred that under this old farmer’s land there may be an ancient tomb.

Having said that, the police contacted the local cultural relics department, hoping they could send experts to investigate. Soon, archaeologists arrived at the old farmer’s pig barn, transported equipment into the cave and began excavating.

Archaeologists determined that this was a very large ancient tomb of the Northern Qi period by analyzing the frescoes on the wall. But the survey results disappointed experts. Although the tomb was large, all the burial items inside were stolen.

The expert could only shake his head and sigh: “This ancient tomb containing great historical value cannot escape the hands of thieves.”

The expert then translated the autographs and determined that the owner of the tomb was Gao Yang, the first Emperor of the Northern Qi Dynasty. Although all the cultural relics were stolen, the information left behind is still very interesting and valuable. Fortunately, the tomb remained quite intact during the chaotic war period.

Although the research value of the Cao Duong tomb has been greatly reduced, there are still many ancient frescoes with historical research value.

At the end of the investigation into the “mysterious hole in the pig barn”, the old farmer also found his pig in the ancient tomb.

The expert exclaimed: “If it weren’t for the pig loss incident, I don’t know when this ancient tomb would have been discovered.” In other words, the old farmer made an important contribution to the study of Northern Qi history.
