In an exciting operation held in the heart of Thailand’s Nakhon Nayok province, a remarkable rescue was carried out to save a duo of elephants.

The animals were saved by a dedicated team of veterinarians and park personnel who put in immense efforts to carry out the mission. Their innovative approach included the use of a boom lift and digger, as well as the heroic act of reviving an unconscious mother elephant with the assistance of three determined individuals. This daring rescue unfolded amidst a heavy downpour, when a one-year-old elephant slipped into a drain hole located along the roadside. The mother, overwhelmed with concern for her baby, attempted to shield her calf but unfortunately ended up tumbling into the hole herself after being tranquilized.

The team in charge of the rescue employed a truck-mounted lift to extract the mother elephant from the hole. Simultaneously, they administered CPR to her. Meanwhile, a construction vehicle worked diligently to clear the soil, allowing the young calf to free itself from the mire. It was truly remarkable to witness the newborn elephant instinctively finding its mother’s teat as she regained her consciousness. Finally, both majestic creatures were safely returned to their natural habitat without any unfortunate incidents. The entire operation was completed triumphantly after an arduous duration of over three hours.

Dr. Chananya Kanchanasarak, a knowledgeable veterinarian at the Khao Yai National Park Department, faced a challenging situation when attempting to approach a baby elephant in the presence of its protective mother. To safely reach the adorable pachyderm, the team decided to administer three doses of tranquilizers. Unfortunately, the mother elephant surprisingly shifted its focus towards its little one just before succumbing to the tranquilizers, resulting in an accidental collision with her own head.

Chananya described this rescue mission as an incredibly remarkable operation that has left a lasting impression on their team.
