When a puppy is adopted at the shelter, everyone expects his story to end like “and he lived happily ever after,” but unfortunately this does not happen in all cases.

They needIt was this discouraging panorama that opened up in Shorty’s life when she was adopted.

This little dog went from being the happy, chubby little dog at the shelter to being ugly and sad.

Rolaпd, now christened Shorty, lived for a time at the  Montgomery County Animal Shelter in Coopere, Texas,  after being rescued from the streets.

The furry one was there until he was two years old, at which point the couple became interested in him and wanted to take him home.

At that time, the dog’s caretakers believed that life was presenting the dog with an opportunity to be happy.

Nobody imagined how wrong they were.

In 2019, Shorty weighed just over 18 kilograms.  The furry one was a little overweight but not enough for the situation to compromise his health.

That’s why caregivers start sharing their photos on social networks and then interested people start writing.

After passing several filters, the guy ended up meeting a couple who promised to make him happy, but everything changed.

Little is known about that year when the dog was outside the shelter, but in  2020 Shorty reappeared in the place with a radical change.

The dog was found on his bones, he had lost so much weight that his ribs could be felt through his skin. On top of that, the dog was no longer the happy little dog that came out of the shelter.

As expected, the caregivers accepted him readily.

Apparently Shorty’s owners went through some financial problems as a result of the pandemic: they had lost their jobs and their homes. These people  were forced to sleep on the street, inside their vehicles  and barely had enough to eat.

These circumstances made it impossible for them to properly care for the puppy and the fear was evident in Shorty’s appearance.

The little animal could not even stand upright or hold its head up for long.

Shorty was very weak and  the owners were forced to make the decision to return him,  perhaps they did it a little too late, but the shelter decided to take him in and pray that everything was not lost with the little dog.

There was no time to waste and Jamie C., the shelter’s founder, knew that very well, so she took the furry one in her arms and decided to fight for him.

This woman has more than 11 years as a rescuer and has faced various cases. 

Jamie realized that his parents  had been through a lot of hardships,  but that day how could he have allowed the little dog to fall into that state.

Luckily, everyone’s love for shelter and care began to take effect. Plus, Shorty wasn’t about to give up.

It seems that the bald man had recognized the place, the people and was able to fully trust that group of humans.

As the days went by, the little dog grew stronger and surprised Jamie by standing up.

“I found out this morning that Shorty  decided he was fed up with lying flat … Today he got up on his own, walked 20 steps to entertain the guests, and then decided to walk another 20 steps.

After that, she got bored and opted to simply wait for her treats in the pantry,” the woman said on her social media.

The little dog  showed incredible spirit  and the strength that many people sometimes lack. Shorty was able to recover in a month of care and gained more than 15 kilograms in those 30 days.

But that wasn’t all. The little dog  returned to smiling and being the friendly person he was two years ago at the shelter . Shorty is now at a healthy weight and is ready to start his new story.
