An abandoned Russian war dog has switched sides and is now defending Ukrainian troops on the battlefield. He meets Max, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois who was found malnourished by Ukrainians in the Mykolaiv area and was nursed back to health.
After being taught to understand Ukrainian orders, he was retrained as a minesweeper dog.
“From now on, Max will serve on the right side, defending Ukraine and nibbling Russian butts.” said Dmitry, a member of the Ukrainian National Guard.
His partner added: “Max has become a real favorite with the guards. “We cannot understand why the Russians left such a lovely animal behind.”
“Ukrainians love dogs, they consider them part of the family.”
Max was discovered still wearing the Russian dog’s camouflage collar.
“Malinois are the same breed used by the SAS and SBS,” a member of the British special forces told the Daily Star. They are brave animals, very intelligent and athletic.
“Son tremendamente leales, pero es evidente que Max está convencido de que los ucranianos son ahora sus nuevos amos”.
“I am very surprised that one of these animals has been abandoned by the Russians because they are a very precious asset.”
“In addition, the bond between a dog and its handler is very strong. “It would be like leaving a member of your family behind.”
